We all dream for a better quality of life. One way of achieving this goal is to maximise all of the potential of your property and create a home that offers a comfortable and elegant feel, whilst allowing additional space that the whole family can enjoy and really benefit from.
Achieving this dream takes vision; our clients, a couple with two teenage children, had the vision to improve upon their existing semi detached home in the Mile End area of Colchester.
By adding an extension to the dwelling, their goal was to develop and extend existing ground floor space, which could be used by the whole family. This included creating a larger kitchen in which to cook, along with a better access point and connection to the rear of the property.
Our client had received an unpolished design previously, but approached us with the idea of taking this one step further and bring the design to life. Our brief was to alter the roof structure of those original designs to a flat construction with large roof lights to allow plenty of natural light to enter the extension from above.
We also reconfigured part of the existing dwelling, resizing the previous dining room and converting it into a utility room environment with a new W/C, the hallway was elongated to minimise any juts in the layout, creating a flush and streamlined feel from the front to the back of the property.

The Final Designs
This extension was completed to include a modern and sleek flat roof with some large scale roof lights, full height windows on the side elevation, plus the use of modern internal LED lighting to further enhance the ambience of the extension.
The finished project left the family with a brand new, open plan kitchen area which offers around 35m2 of internal floor space, which they plan to use for cooking, dining and entertaining, as well as indoor and outdoor socialising such as BBQs and parties throughout the warmer months of the year.
This project was an absolute pleasure to work on from start to completion, and the client (who also happens to be a good friend of ours as well) was left overjoyed with the end result! They cannot wait to begin using their newly improved space, all with perfect timing for the weather to improve for the summer months.
